I hope to come to Novi Sad again and be at ‘Entry’, a festival celebrating your country’s joining the EU’, Rehn said.

I shall be pilot during the first flight
Author: Bojana Stamenković | 01.12.2009 - 08:40
‘I am expecting huge interest in Belgrade-Vienna flights because only ‘JAT Airways’ and ‘Austrian’ are flying from your capital to the capital of Austria. Their tickets are far more expensive than ours.
This is one of the main reasons for which we have chosen this destination’, Niki Lauda, a legendary Formula 1 driver and also owner of a low cost carrier says for ‘Blic’. He yesterday landed at Belgrade Airport piloting his own plane.
As of February 1 next year his company shall fly from Belgrade to Vienna for EUR 29 only every day except Saturday.
Q: Do you plan to introduce direct flights from Belgrade to some other destinations?
‘At the moment we are planning to introduce flights to Bucharest and Sofia, but not to any other destinations. The principle of our business dealing is that the starting fare of our ticket is EUR 29. The price increases as the date of flight approaches’.
Q: When shall you be in position to say that the flight from Belgrade to Vienna is profitable for your company?
‘The volume of this market is 150,000 passengers. Our estimations are to have 80,000 passengers in eight to twelve months. Then we should know how profitable it is’.
Q: Some other low cost companies such as ‘Ryan Air’ and ‘Easy Jet’ are expected to come. too. Will the competition help you or not?
‘If other low cost companies are going to travel to Vienna, too then that shall not be good for us, but if they are interested in other destinations then there shall be no problems for us’.
Q: You are former Formula 1 driver now driving a plane. What is more difficult?
‘Both a car and a plane have rules that have to be respected. These are both mechanical machines that I am very skillful with. I shall personally pilot the first flight from Belgrade to Vienna and I am very happy because of that’.
